Adobe Photoshop

The world's most powerful image editor

Professional raster image editing software for photo manipulation, compositing, and digital painting. Dominant in photography, print, and visual design workflows.

Our take

Photoshop is still the benchmark for image editing — thirty-five years in and nothing truly replaces it for professional photo retouching, compositing, or digital painting. The Generative Fill and Generative Expand features powered by Adobe Firefly are game-changers for content-aware editing. The Photography Plan at $20/month (bundled with Lightroom) is the best value if you're a photographer. The downsides are well-known: subscription fatigue, a steep learning curve, and feature bloat that makes simple tasks harder than they should be. For casual photo editing, Pixlr or Canva will suffice. For serious work, Photoshop remains irreplaceable.
